God Speaks From Mercy

Read Numbers 7 – 8

And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him. Numbers 7:89 KJV

At the conclusion of the offerings, made by each of the tribes of Israel, for the dedication of the Altar to be used in the Tabernacle, Moses went into the Most Holy Place of the Tabernacle and heard, from above the Mercy Seat, God’s voice speaking to him. The Mercy Seat was the lid which covered the Ark of the Covenant. The Mercy Seat was especially important for two reasons: (1) the Blood of the Atonement was sprinkled upon it, the blood of an acceptable sacrifice alone made it possible for God to meet with man and it was on that basis He spoke with Moses; (2) the Mercy Seat was also considered the Throne of God, for it was above the Mercy Seat the Shekinah Glory or Presence of God rested. God still speaks from His place of mercy, but only by the blood of the acceptable sacrifice of His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We approach God no other way.

Lord, I am so grateful you have given to me an even greater privilege than Moses. Based upon the acceptable sacrifice of your Son I am able to come before the throne of mercy at any time to enjoy your presence and fellowship.
