God the Word, Our Creater

By November 25, 2013No Comments

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3 KJV

The opening statement of the Gospel of John strikes us as an intended repetition of the opening statement of the Bible. It connects the start of this Gospel with the beginning of creation, and in fact, takes us before creation to the One responsible for it. We learn here three essential truths about the Word, who is going to be the key figure of this Gospel: (1) at the start of creation, the Word was already in existence; He was not part of creation, (2) the Word existed prior to creation because He was God; the Word is God, (3) and it was the Word that created all things; God the Word is the Creator! That is strong theology at the start of this Gospel but when John identifies the Word as Jesus we understand why.

Lord, how can we ever think You do not care for us when we realize the extent You went to identify with us and meet our need. It is beyond our ability to comprehend that the Creator would do so much for His creation, especially the rebellious creatures we are. May our attitude toward You always display the respect and gratitude You deserve.
