Less Than God’s Best

By March 21, 2017No Comments

Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan. Numbers 32:5 KJV

Before crossing the Jordan into the land of promise the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half of Manasseh noticed the land on the east side was just what they wanted, plenty of grazing ground for their cattle and good places to raise their families. Instead of receiving their lot in the Promised Land they asked to have this land instead. Moses was alarmed by their request; it reminded him of what happened 40 years earlier when the people were discouraged and failed to enter God’s promise. But in His permissive will God granted their request. They got what they wanted but they did not get God’s best. It is not, at all, surprising that years later they were the first to fall away from their walk with God. Too often we settle for the same. God has something better for us but we ask for what we want instead. To insure a strong walk with God we should set our hearts only on His best.

Lord, too many times I have been distracted by less than your best for my life. Over time I have learned the shortcomings of my choices. Help me to keep my heart’s desire focused on what you want for me that I might enjoy your best in the days ahead.
