Looking for an Easy Way

By May 13, 2017No Comments

In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel. Judges 18:1 KJV

We are not to think from this statement the tribe of Dan had been omitted when Joshua divided up the land; in Joshua 19 they were assigned the area between Ephrain and Judah. God had a place and responsibility for them, but even in Judges 1 we learn they never took possession of it. The enemy lived there, so rather than doing battle, they looked for an easier place. By the end of this chapter they found a weaker people, destroyed them, settled in their place, and established themselves in idolatry. Verse 31 indicates God was always available, but by turning away from what God had for them, to look for easier fortune, they actually left everything good to become a lazy, rebellious and discontent people. Worst of all, they left God. In tough times, we must look to God and take possession of His promises. Turning from Him for an easier way out is too expensive.

Lord, looking for an easy way out of our challenges is tempting, but you often have something for better for us in the challenge. Help us depend on you and fight the battles of life, rather than looking for something easier.
