Mary’s Example of Faith

By October 21, 2015No Comments

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. Luke 1:38 KJV

Mary, a young virgin, living in a nowhere village was confronted with overwhelming challenges: an angel appeared to her, said she would give birth to the Messiah, and would conceive as a virgin. If that was not enough, just think of the consequences once she started to show: what would her family think, her friends think, her neighbor’s think, and Joseph think? We sometimes think, if only God’s will was clearer it would be a lot easier to do, but if you were in Mary’s place, do you think it would have been easy to do the Lord’s will? With only a short time to think about it, despite the challenges it would involve, Mary surrendered to the Lord’s will. We will not find a better example of faith.

Lord, Mary took the message of the angel as Your Word and, seemingly without hesitation, acted on it. That’s faith! Hebrews 11:6 teaches that without faith it is impossible to please You. Help me exercise the kind of faith Mary had that my life might also be pleasing to You.
