Numbering My Days

By June 18, 2014No Comments

Read Psalm 39 – 41

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Psalm 39:4 KJV

How this could change our lives if we would let it! Most seem to go through life ignoring one of the most important days of their earthly life: the last one. We live as if life has no end, and feel cheated when forced to come to grips with it either through a serious personal illness or the sudden death of a loved one. Whenever either happens we feel as if life has been unfair, but our lives are only a vapor (James 4:14), and before we know it our days are gone. There is great wisdom in this brief prayer of David. If my end is death, my days, no matter how long or short, are frail with no guarantee about tomorrow. If my days are short then I should make the best of them. I should want them to have eternal value and the best way to accomplish that is to live with eternity in view and not just today or tomorrow. God is ready to teach us how to use them well if only we will as Him.

Lord, help me not waste the days I have. I want to use them according to Your will to accomplish the good You have in mind, for then I know my days, though brief, will count for eternity.
