Read Leviticus 26:1-12

Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 26:1 KJV

Whether in the Old Testament or New Testament God’s people are prohibited from any form of idol worship. The four references to idols, images, pillars, and stones dealt with every form of idol worship that was prevalent among Israel’s neighbors. Eventually they became prevalent among the people of Israel as well. I doubt those four categories are enough to cover the variety of forms idol worship takes in our day. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what a god is and is interested in hearing your take on the subject until you talk of the only true God of the Bible. Christians are just as susceptible to false ideas of God today as the Israelites were in the past. There is only one way to protect ourselves from the environment of idolatry we live in; we must always make sure that what we believe about God and how we worship Him is according to the Word of God.

Lord, please protect me from the foolish and false ideas of worship that have always seemed to plague your people. When I bow my knee I want it to be to you alone.

A question to ponder: What are some forms of idolatry that are prevalent in our society today?
