Our First Priority

By April 2, 2017No Comments

And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 11:13 KJV

Whether we have them written out, have verbalized them, or not, all of us have priorities. Our priorities are revealed in the things that occupy our time and thoughts. For most of us work is a priority, it often consumes a large amount of time and thought. Certainly our families are, and should be, an important priority as well. Some priorities however, help prioritize everything else; that is true of the priority mentioned in this verse. The way we think and respond to the Lord is our most important priority because it enables us to put everything else in its proper place, thus filling our life with his blessing. To have the Lord as our first priority is to love and serve him with heart and soul. The combination of heart and soul refer to the essence of our being; the core of who we are. When the Lord has us heart and soul, he has all of us and it is revealed in love and service, attitude and actions.

Lord, I love and serve you because you do have me heart and soul, but I realize, because I am sometimes distracted, there is room for growth and failure in my relationship with you. Because I want to grow in my relationship with you protect me from distractions.
