Our Kinsman-Redeemer

By May 17, 2017No Comments

And he said, who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman. Ruth 3:9 KJV

When Ruth went down to the threshing floor, she was claiming God’s provision. When an Israelite hit on hard times and had to sell his land or even himself, God’s provision was for a close relative to redeem them back. The requirements were simple: he had to be a blood relative, have the necessary resources, and be willing to redeem. On the floor, Ruth was claiming that provision. I hope you see the illustration of God’s provision for us. Sin has put us all in the slave market. Jesus Christ is our kinsman-redeemer. When He became flesh, He met the first requirement. As He lived without sin He met the second. And when He willingly went to the cross in our behalf He met the third requirement. Jesus has fulfilled the part of the kinsman-redeemer. The question now remaining is whether you and I will claim God’s provision as Ruth did on the threshing floor. Romans 10:13 tells us, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Lord, thank you for your willingness to serve as our kinsman-redeemer. Without you we were without hope, there was nothing we could do to change our situation, but you met the requirements and made our redemption possible.
