Our Reasonable Service

Read Romans 11 – 12

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1-2 KJV

Here is a most important call to every Christian for total commitment in serving God. In light of everything He has done for us, total commitment is certainly reasonable service. When we fully understand the sacrifice of Christ in our behalf, a living sacrifice on our part can only be considered reasonable service. He, being God, died in our place; the least we can do is live for Him! We do not bring animals to an altar for sacrifice to God, as in the Old Testament, instead we bring ourselves; we present our bodies to Him. A life that is fully yielded to God is reasonable! Instead of allowing ourselves to be conformed to the thinking and habits of this world we live in, which is self-centered and self-indulgent, we choose to be transformed in faith and practice by God’s Word. The goal of a committed life is that the things of God, which are good and acceptable, will be demonstrated in us.

Lord, I believe I have answered this call to reasonable service and have not regretted it. I have found the less conformed to the world and more conformed to you I am the more reasonable this call becomes. Thank you for all you have done to make this possible.

A question to ponder: If a better understanding of the sacrifice of Christ makes our living sacrifice more reasonable, what all did Jesus accomplish at the cross?
