Our Response to False Teachers

By June 18, 2013No Comments

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 1:10-11 KJV

What does John tell us not to do when a false teacher comes to our home, one that does not hold to the incarnation of Christ, that He is both true God and true man? He tells us to neither receive nor send him or she away with God’s blessing. What does that mean? It is to treat them as a brother or sister in the Lord. Why are we told not to do this? First, because they are not, and second, by doing so we become a fellow participant in their spreading of false teachings about Christ. Does this mean we are never to witness to them? No, we should always be ready to tell others the truth about Jesus. If we are going to speak to them what must we first be sure of? We must be sure of the doctrine of Christ.

Lord, I am grateful that during my younger years You protected me from the false teachers I came into contact with. I am also grateful that through my years as a Christian You have taught me the truth through Your Word that I might know it personally, share it with others, and stand against false teachers.
