Prayer That Shakes You Up

Read Acts 3 – 4

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31 KJV

Acts 4:24-31 contains a great prayer, note the following: (1) this prayer was born out of witness and service. Preaching and persecution were the basis for this time of prayer. (2) This was a unified prayer, all present were in one accord. (3) Their praying was based solidly on the Word of God; using Scripture in prayer is powerful. (4) They did not pray to have their circumstances changed, but asked God to empower them to make the best of their circumstances. We need more of this today. (5) Those present acknowledged God as the Sovereign Creator, who is in control of all things, including their difficulty. (6) They wanted, above everything else, to glorify God’s child, Jesus Christ. Jesus should be the central focus of our activities as well. As a result of this prayer meeting, they were moved, God shook the place. God still moves people with prayer, may He move us too!

Lord, too much of my own praying leaves me the same; I am not shook or moved. I want to be shaken, moved, and emboldened as a result of time spent with You. Help me pray as these early believers did.

A question to ponder: Has there been a time when you were emotionally and physically moved during a time of prayer, how did it affect you?
