Praying for People in Trouble

Read Exodus 30 – 32

And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Exodus 32:11 KJV

Exodus 32:11-14 is a good example of what we should do when people we love are at their worst. When God was set to destroy the people of Israel, Moses besought the Lord. He used three negatives we can also use when we pray. (1) Don’t allow Your work to be left undone. God had done too much to deliver His people, only to let it go to waste. If true then, how much more now! God has given His Son for our deliverance. (2) Don’t allow Your glory to be left unknown. The destruction of Israel would have given the Egyptians an inaccurate view of God. His displays of power with the Egyptians were so they would know He was the LORD. God still demonstrates His power through changed lives. (3) Don’t allow Your promises to be left unfulfilled. Moses used a key promise from God as the basis of his prayer. God still keeps His promises. Because this is true, reminding God of His promises continues to be an effective way for us to pray as well.

Lord, because Moses prayed as he did, You turned away Your wrath. When people I love are at their worst help me be the kind of person Moses was. Help me to quickly and consistently turn to You in intercession for them.
