Preparing for Marriage

By November 28, 2012No Comments

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. Song of Solomon 2:7 KJV

The Song of Solomon is about pure love between husband and wife. The words of this verse are provided as advice throughout the song from the wife. She is warning others not to rush into love, not to make something happen that is not ready to happen. I suspect that is one of the biggest problems of our day. Marriage is among the most important decisions we make but too often people rush into it without much thought. To be patient and not rush love is good advice. Why? (1) To be properly prepared for God’s plan in marriage. (2) To enjoy the full pleasure of physical, emotional, and spiritual love ordained by God. (3) To be encouraged in your partner for life, rather than discouraged as many are.

Lord, the love of a husband and wife is holy in Your eyes. Too often we fail to enjoy the fullness of it because we accept far less in marriage than You have to offer. Help me continue nurturing my own marriage according to Your plan, and use me to be an encouragement to others just starting.
