Pulling Down Strongholds

By April 18, 2017No Comments

And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. Joshua 6:5 KJV

The walls of Jericho were a stronghold, and enormous; according to Deuteronomy 1:28, the spies 40 years earlier described them just that way. They had two walls 30 feet high. The outer wall was 6 feet thick, there was a space of 15 feet, and then the second wall was 12 feet thick. No wonder Joshua was anxious and fearful, from a human perspective; the taking of Jericho seemed impossible. But the promise of God in Joshua 6:5 says it all. When we do what God says, even when we don’t understand, then the walls come down. Those walls in Jericho were physical and real, but they can represent any kind of wall in our personal experience that keeps us from enjoying the victory God already has for us. Our strength and wisdom are not enough to bring such walls down, but when we do what the Lord says, those walls begin to crumble, and we are able to enter into His victory.

Lord, it is encouraging to know you have planned for my victory in life, but so often I feel overwhelmed by the obstacles, help me trust you and do what you say.
