Steps toward Revival

Read 1 Samuel 5 – 8

And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, we have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh. 1 Samuel 7:6 KJV

Have you or someone you know ever fallen away from a right relationship with God? It is a common experience among God’s people. When it happens, is there a way back? The happy answer is yes. We often refer to this as revival. It can happen to a person and even a nation as we see with Israel in 1 Samuel 7:3-9. Several steps were taken in the process of Israel’s revival. (1) They put away their false gods and returned to the Lord. (2) They dedicated themselves to the Lord. Water poured out on the ground cannot be gathered up again. This symbolic act indicated that they were completely giving themselves to the Lord. (3) They fasted before the Lord. (4) They confessed their sins. (5) Samuel judged the children of Israel, explaining the results. And (6) as Samuel had promised, he entered fully into a ministry of prayer for them. These same steps will lead us back to the Lord.
