The Anointing Oil

Read Exodus 38 – 40

And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy. And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy. Exodus 40:9-10 KJV

Once the Tabernacle and all of its articles were made, they, along with Aaron, as the high priest, and his sons were anointed with oil. This was a special ceremony, which set them apart or consecrated them for God’s use. They became holy because they were set apart as God’s special possession. Oil is often used in the Bible as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and His work in the lives of God’s people. Today, you and I, as Christians, are to be holy, set apart for God’s use alone, because we have been anointed with the Oil of God, the Holy Spirit. Our moment of anointing took place when we received Jesus as our Savior. In that moment we were immersed in the Spirit and set apart from the world and unto God as His special possession and for His special use. As Christians, we are the anointed vessels of God. This is an undeserved privilege; let’s live for His glory and not our own!

Lord, what a privilege it is to be anointed and set apart for your use. As your holy vessel I am considered special. Therefore I am to be used in special ways for your honor and glory. Help me to remember that in the places I go and the things I do.
