The Bread of Life

By February 14, 2012No Comments

I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. John 6:48-50 KJV

After Jesus feed the 5000 in the wilderness the multitude pursued Him even more. Their motivation for seeking out Jesus was not His teaching or opportunity of a changed life; instead, with the manna of Moses in mind, they were looking for free bread. Jesus used their empty stomachs to teach them about a different kind of bread, bread that eternally fulfills spiritual hunger pangs. Eating this bread did more than temporarily fill the stomach, it gave eternal life. Jesus Himself was that bread. The crowd misunderstood Him, they thought that somehow they were to physically eat Jesus, and so they walked away. However, Jesus was talking about faith. To eat Him was to receive Him by faith.

Lord, I enjoy good bread, but no physical bread has ever satisfied me as You have. From the moment I first partook of You by faith my life was changed; thank You for coming as the Bread of Life and fully satisfying my spiritual hunger.
