The Buffer between God and Man

Read Numbers 1:47-54

But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony. Numbers 1:53 KJV

After the completion of the Tabernacle the tribal units of the people of Israel were given assigned positions around it. Through their positions they all had equal access to God for worship and atonement of sin. However, the Levitical tribe, which made up the priestly order, was arranged differently. They were positioned all the way around the Tabernacle between it and the other eleven tribes. They served in a spiritually strategic position as a protective buffer between God and the people. This assumed since they were set apart in service to Him they would be more careful about their holiness, and less likely to raise the wrath of God against them. Today the Lord Jesus Christ serves in that position for us. Based upon His sacrifice for sin, no one goes to the Father but through Him. Jesus Christ stands between the wrath of God and man. How thankful we should be for such a buffer.

Lord, thank you for granting me access into your presence based on the work of Jesus Christ. I am also grateful He stands between you and me in order to protect me from my own sinful ways. Help me appreciate what you have done for my protection.
