The Deity of Jesus

By May 18, 2013No Comments

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.  Colossians 1:15-16 KJV

This is one of the strongest statements in the Bible about the divine nature of Christ. Jesus is not only equal with God, He is God. As the image of the invisible God, He is the exact representation of God. He not only reflects God but reveals God to us. As the firstborn of all creation, He has priority and authority over all. He came from heaven, not from the earth, and is Lord of all. He is completely holy and has authority to judge. Therefore, He is supreme over all creation, including both the physical and spiritual world. Today, when many speak of the real Jesus as only a man, like the Colossian believers, we must also emphasize the deity of Jesus or our Christian faith will be misdirected, and meaningless.

Lord, it amazes me after all these years that Your pre-eminence and deity would still be a matter of debate among professing Christians. I realize it is a matter of authority; too many of us still want the ultimate say in our lives. I gladly acknowledge You as my Lord and God. As the head of all creation, I am better off with You as the head of my life too.
