The Discipline of Christ in Prayer

By October 13, 2015No Comments

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. Mark 1:35 KJV

Here we get a glimpse into the regular habit of Christ. His days were filled with people and ministry. The context indicates even at this early hour people were looking for Him. Jesus did not allow His schedule to control Him; instead He took control of His schedule through times of prayer. Notice the basics of His discipline: He got up early, He went to a solitary place, and He prayed. That is a simple yet powerful discipline that many in our time miss out on. Many schedule no time to pray, to speak with the Father, who sits on His Throne in control of the affairs of men. Is it any wonder we lack His power and purpose? We take control of our schedules when we schedule time with God in prayer.

Lord, I am just as guilty as the next. I get busy and instead of praying about the day I jump into it without being properly prepared. No wonder I often feel frustrated rather than refreshed at the start of a busy day. May the discipline of Christ in prayer consistently become my discipline as well.
