For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. 1 Samuel 1:27-28 KJV
These are the words of Hannah as she dedicated her son, Samuel, to the Lord. Hannah provides a wonderful example of motherhood. She believed that there was nothing more important than being a mother; and so she committed herself to that end. She believed that nothing and no one could make her a mother but God, and so she thrust herself upon Him seeking His working in her life. She also believed that no one but God could best raise her child, so she completely dedicated him to the Lord so that Samuel would know, love and serve the Lord all the days of his life. The loving example, dedication, and prayers of this mother accomplished their goal. Samuel did serve the Lord and led others to do the same.
Lord, not only is Hannah a good example for mothers but for parents in general including me. Hannah never gave up on accomplishing what she hoped to as a mother. Help me maintain the same faithful determination and be the same kind of example to my children.
