The Fear that Overcomes Fear

By October 24, 2013No Comments

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 KJV

This statement is in the context of calling and sending the twelve disciples to proclaim the availability of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus tells them as they do they will be persecuted because the disciple is not above his master. These words equally apply to the follower of Jesus Christ today. We too have been sent with the message of salvation and the availability of heaven for all who will believe. Quite often the one thing that stops us from sharing the Gospel is fear. Jesus says do not be afraid of how people will respond or even what they might do to us physically. Instead, we are to fear God who is able to eternally punish both body and soul in hell. Such godly fear will remove our fear of men.

Lord, by faith in You and the work You have accomplished, heaven is now a reality for us which no one can take away. Hell is also a reality. You want us to share the Gospel with others that they might escape it. Too often we let fear keep us from sharing the good news. Instead, let our fear of what will happen to them enable us overcome our fears.
