The God of All Comfort

Read 2 Corinthians 1 – 4

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 KJV

Here, a title of God is revealed that must not be forgotten by us, for at some point we all find ourselves in need of it; He is the God of all comfort. When comfort is needed, no matter what the reason, who better to turn to than the source of comfort? Think of it, He has the knowledge, understanding, and ability to help us as none other can. This is true for every form of trouble or tribulation we may experience. It comes sometimes by the reading of Scripture, sometimes by the removal of the affliction, and sometimes through the help of a friend. Whatever the method, God is the source. Having experienced His comfort, God then uses us as channels of comfort for others who are in trouble. He gives us a special sensitivity toward those facing the same troubles we have. We can identify with their pain, share how God comforted us in similar sorrows, and point them to Him.

Lord, I have experienced all three levels of comfort revealed in these verses: others have comforted me and pointed me to you, and I have experienced your comfort and pointed others to you. I am grateful to know you as the God of all comfort.

A question to ponder: As the God of all comfort, what are some different ways God has comforted you in the past?
