The Groaning of the Spirit

By December 23, 2013No Comments

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26-27 KJV

Have you ever hurt so deeply that as you cried out to God all you could do was groan? Such groaning is described in the Bible as prayer. These verses mention our groaning but also that of the Holy Spirit. His groaning in our behalf is especially encouraging. When we do not know how or what to pray, and all we can do is groan to God, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with His own groaning. When our prayers seem weak and ineffective, it is encouraging to remember that the Holy Spirit is praying with and for us. He searches our hearts and knows exactly what we need. He then intercedes for us according to the will of God. That insures that we will get the best God has for our innermost need.

Lord, how encouraging it is to know that when I am in need of Your help but do not know how to pray or what to ask for, that the Holy Spirit does for me what I cannot do for myself; He picks up where my groaning leaves off that I might receive just the help I need.
