The Loss of a Generation

By March 18, 2014No Comments

Read Judges 1 – 4

And also all that generation was gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. Judges 2:10 KJV

It doesn’t take long to lose a generation of young people. All it takes is for one generation to fail to teach the next generation about the person and works of God. In our time I often hear concerns about the direction and lifestyles of our youth. There seems to be a moral and spiritual emptiness about them. This concerns me as well. But it is so important to recognize where the problem begins. The ignorant generation spoken of in the book Judges began with their fathers. How is that? They failed to teach their children who the Lord was and what He had done; they failed to pass on the heart of their faith. When Joshua challenged Israel in Joshua 24, they were moving away from God; he was giving them an opportunity to turn back and save the next generation. The same opportunity is ours. First we must check our own relationship with God then share it with our children.

Lord, help me maintain a relationship with You that is real and vibrant. Help me be responsible to my children, even now, in sharing with them both the facts and the heart of my faith in You. I do not want the generation that follows me to be ignorant of You.
