The Mercy and Faithfulness of God

By January 1, 2013No Comments

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV

Looking over the ruins of Jerusalem, following its destruction by Babylon, you would think Jeremiah would have been overcome with despair, but he reached a much different conclusion: God is merciful, He treats us better than we deserve. Because of their sins, Israel deserved to be utterly consumed, but even in punishment God had shown mercy, they were not consumed, they still had a future. The mercy and compassion of God never fails, His faithfulness is great. Even in the worst of circumstances that is something we can count on. We may fail but God will not. Since this is true, no matter how we may have failed yesterday, we can start today fresh in God’s mercy, compassion, and faithfulness.

Lord, I know from personal experience the truthfulness and encouragement of this Scripture. You have always treated me better than I deserve. You have shown Yourself faithful even when I have not. As I begin this day, it is only by Your mercy and compassion. Thank You.
