The Presence of the Lord

By October 1, 2013No Comments

It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there. Ezekiel 48:35 KJV

The final chapter of Ezekiel promises a fully restored Israel bigger and better than ever. Are these only intended to be exaggerated words of encouragement? I do not see how that can even be a possible consideration, these are not Ezekiel’s words but God’s promise to His people. Since the restored land and city are bigger than they have ever been, I understand this to still be future. Instead of being called Jerusalem, the city will be characterized with a name of distinction: the Lord is there. What a glorious prospect! The book of Ezekiel begins at the lowest point in Israel’s history, but ends at the highest point in her future. The difference in either is the absence or the presence of the Lord.

Lord, as Christians, Your presence in our lives today is what makes us our very best. If Your presence in Jerusalem in the future is what makes her glorious, then Your presence in our lives today should be considered no less glorious. Help me understand what a tremendous blessing You are in my life.
