The Searching Eyes of God

Read 2 Chronicles 13 – 16

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. 2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV

These are words of great encouragement to the child of God. The Lord looks back and forth all over the world for people He can show Himself strong to, and show them He can be trusted and depended on. That’s encouraging because He is not waiting for us to come to Him, He is looking for us! There is a catch however; He is looking for people who have hearts devoted or loyal to Him. To depend on Him one day and ourselves or someone else another indicates we do not really know where our help comes from. God will not bless such uncertainty, but instead will leave us to our own ways. King Asa, the object of this promise, had experienced both the encouragement and rebuke of it. Early in life he trusted the Lord and experienced His strength, but later he turned from the Lord, looked to others for his help, and as a result his life ended with great pain and difficulty.

Lord, I want my heart to be found right by you because I need and want to experience your strength from day to day. I have already found you to be trustworthy, so protect me from the foolishness of Asa who turned from trusting you alone later in life. I want to finish strong in your strength and not weak because of my own foolishness.

A question to ponder: When the Lord looks at me, what does He see in my heart, devotion or distraction?
