Thinking Through Decisions

By March 25, 2017No Comments

And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, the tribe of Joseph hath said well. Numbers 36:5 KJV

Here we revisit a decision already made regarding the inheritance of Zelophehad. He died without sons, and at their request, his daughters were allowed to receive his inheritance. But some members of the tribe began thinking through the consequences of the decision and realized a potential problem regarding the tribe’s allotment of land, so they brought their concern to Moses, who talked with God about it. Thinking through consequences of the decision brought the Lord’s commendation to these men, and an adjustment to the previous decision. It has practical applications for us. (1) When others express a concern about a decision we have made, rather than feeling offended, hearing them out could protect us from an unforeseen consequence. (2) After thinking through a decision, never hesitate to raise a concern, you may avert people from a problem they have overlooked.

Lord, this seems like a simple thing but I am encouraged about it. Seeing your commendation in this instance reminds me of your interest in the simple things affecting my life, it also encourages me to think through the consequences of my decisions rather than stepping blindly into the future.
