What the Lord Requires

Read Deuteronomy 10 – 12

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. Deuteronomy 10:12 KJV

Here is a simple outline of what the Lord requires of His people. Although it was first given to the people of Israel as they prepared to enter the land of promise, we’ll not find anything that is not required of us as well. (1) We are to fear the Lord. This is to show Him the respect He deserves as God, but even more, it is to bow to His greatness in all aspects of life. (2) We are to walk in His ways. This is to live in accordance with the instructions of His Word; to live as He created us to live. (3) We are to love Him. How can we not? All that we are and have comes from Him. We know what love is because He first loved us and gave His Son as a satisfaction for our sins. Refusing to love the Lord is mankind’s greatest failure. (4) We are to serve Him. Our service of God should not be half-hearted but whole-hearted with everything we are; He alone deserves our all.

Lord, your requirements are always up front. I never wonder what is expected in my relationship with you. To fear, walk with, love, and serve you is not too much to expect, but still I often fall short. Help me in maintaining the consistency that will meet these basic requirements in my relationship with you.
