When Men Act Wisely

Read Exodus 1 – 4

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Exodus 1:10 KJV

Matthew Hendry says when men deal wickedly it is common for them to imagine they deal wisely. This was true of Pharaoh and the Egyptians. It has continued to be so through history up to the present. Many of the difficulties experienced in our society have been brought upon us by men who believe they deal wisely. The wisdom of men will always be far less just than the wisdom of God. But one might wonder where God was while His people were dealt with unjustly. Certainly Israel wondered. As you read these opening chapters it becomes clear that He was with them. God heard their cry, had a plan, and His unseen hand is evident in all their circumstances. As Pharaoh worked to eliminate Israel, God worked to preserve and deliver them. Sometimes in the thick of life it is hard to detect God’s presence, but He is there. Believing so is the key that turns difficult times into dynamic people.

Lord, I understand why the people of Israel wondered where You where in the midst of their agony. There have been times when I have felt the same. But I have learned both by Your Word and personal experience that You are always with me. Such knowledge has been a great comfort and encouragement to me.
