JASPER, IN—David King, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, wants BBC donors to know what an incredible year 2010 was for the church and what has already happened in 2011. Last year 19 people came to salvation, 4 were baptized, and 95 percent of the church members became involved in regular church ministry. This year the church has been having monthly events designed to reach their community for Christ. So far this year, 10 individuals have placed their faith in Christ, and1 was baptized. By God’s grace Fellowship Baptist hopes to share the gospel with every man, woman, and child in their surrounding county, as well as in their own city of Jasper.
Attendance at the church had grown so much over the past few years, they could barely fit in the church’s 1,200 square foot auditorium. The building had only two restrooms and no real kitchen. In 2006 the church began to plan on next steps for a building project. Over three years people of the church raised almost all of the money for the project, but still needed a boost to complete the build. In April 2010 at the Baptist Builders Club administrative meeting Fellowship Baptist was approved for a $10,000 grant. Those funds allowed Fellowship Baptist to finish off the project. One year later they have completed a 7,000 square foot addition that includes, an auditorium, classroom space, more bathrooms, teen room, and kitchen.
On March 6th, 2011, the church held a dedication service. City officials, construction teams, and BBC Director, Michael Nolan along with his family were on hand to join in the celebration. Michael Nolan gave a charge to the church and reminded them the church was not just a physical building, but that they were the church. Others gave personal testimonies about the history of the church and how God has and is working. After the service a catered meal was served, followed by a mini concert and an open house for the community.
