Why start more churches? This question is often raised by pastors and church leaders. Here is the first of seven reasons to lead your church in church planting. A new reason will be posted each week.

The Biblical Reason
Obviously, this should be the most important. Church planting is the work of Jesus in this age. “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Matt. 16:18). It is Jesus’ strategy for the church to fulfill His Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20). As His Spirit-empowered witnesses (Acts 1:8), we are to reach our Jerusalem (local church outreach), our Judea (regional church planting), our Samaria (regional cross-cultural planting) and the ends of the earth (global church planting). Acts shows church planting was how the early church understood and implemented Christ’s strategy.

While we are not commanded to plant churches, it is the inevitable result of obedience to the Great Commission, following the apostolic pattern. As the gospel was shared, new believers were gathered together as local churches, and pastor-elders were raised up to lead them (Acts 14:21-23).
